At times we get involved in “doing” things for God. That can range from giving (tithes), preparing meals for the needy, repairing things at church, as we are about to pour a new concrete pad behind the church to aid the Ladies as they come out, having the Preacher over for dinner (fried chicken)

There are many things we can “do” for Jesus BUT what is His desire? Like always lets look at His Word for the answer:

Luke 10: 38-40, As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

Now was Martha doing a good thing? Sure she was, she invited Jesus in her home, was cooking, cleaning up for Him, putting out the best silverware and dishes, but what was Jesus’s response?

Luke 10: 41-42, “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Some manuscripts but only one thing is needed

Seems Jesus is more interested in the time we give Him, reading His Word, praying to Him, then in ALL the things we “do” for Him. Remember He fed over 5,000 people, He don’t need what we can do for Him.

Those things aren’t bad, actually they’re good, however the “Most Important” for us, as individuals, is to get as close to Him as we can! Then share Him with a world full of lost and dying people.

That is His desire for you and I!
