I had intended to post this one second, as I mentioned earlier, God changed my mind and in so doing He changed much of what was in this post! I am VERY hard headed and you can NOT change my mind once I’ve set it on any particular thing.

However I do NOT bump heads with my Creator because I WILL LOSE and I know it.

So He just simply gets His way! Praise God. 🙂

We read of the account of God’s creation and renovation of His creation in Gen. 1:1- 2: 22 which is too long to post it all here.

When we read God’s Word it is Living and Powerful and way TOO much to know in a life time. However we are expected to read and study His Word as He teaches us His will for our lives through It.

If you, like me, have read through His Word more than once you see so much more in the same place where you saw something else the other times you read it.

Ever watched a movie twice and the second time saw something you didn’t see the first time? I have, this is the same, except in God’s Word is even so much more so. You never get through finding things He has in It!

We are going to look at one of those that I found after multiple times of reading the same Scripture. It is one that I haven’t ever heard a preacher speak on and recently when I asked the question on Face Book no one could find the answer even when I pointed to the EXACT verse it was in.

That question- What is the first thing God created according to His Word in Genesis 1:1 – 2:22?
So lets look at the beginning of His Word:

Genesis 1

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Usually I don’t post verse numbers individually but this case I believe we need to look at them separately. Lets fist look at verse 5 to get an understanding as to why it is different than today’s understanding of what a day is:

The Hebrew word for evening is erev. It’s always translated evening, sunset or night. The word for morning is boqer. There’s no question that it means morning. The word for day is yomn. Yomn can have a figurative meaning as well as a literal one. It is used 2287 times in Scripture, 2008 are a literal 24 hour day. In the figurative sense it can mean a longer period, as in Amos 5:18 “Day of the Lord “ in reference to the 3.5 year Great Tribulation.

Combined with evening and morning, as it is in each of the six references of Genesis 1, it’s meant to be taken literally, a single 24 hour period, there are no figurative applications for the Hebrew words erev and boqer. The Bible doesn’t say there were evenings and mornings, it says there was evening (singular) and there was morning (singular). That means one 24 hour day.

We will look at 3 and 4 together since they are together. This is usually where we mess up concerning creation! God speaks and light appears, from where? We don’t know since He is so far above us in understanding, He only knows where and how He does things, we are to just accept and believe.

Then He of course likes what He has done and states it was good. Then He notes there is a time for light and a time for dark. Which we understand today because of the rotation of the earth.

Now because It states this in the first day we assume He created light first, which is an incorrect assumption.

To get the answer to the question: What is the first thing God created according to His Word in Genesis 1:1 – 2:22? We must look earlier in 1:2: Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Notice even before He said, Let there be light His Spirit was hovering over the earth? So, although, He doesn’t say so He had to have created the earth “before” light in verse 3, otherwise it would not have been here for His Spirit to hover over!

In 1:1, it is a general statement that He created it all- lets look at a VERY important Scripture concerning this statement:

John 1:1-3, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Yes my friends, Jesus, the Savior of mankind, also created it ALL!

May God bless each one that reads His Word wanting a better understanding of Him and His desires!
