Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39 NIV

Can you feel the intensity with which Jesus speaks this command? Loving God cannot just be with the heart, mind and soul. It must be with all our heart, with all our mind, and with all our soul. When we love God in this manner, so much power will flow through the believer. We are devoted to doing that which pleases the Heavenly Father and the Son. We do that which we are commanded. The power of God will flow through us so we can do more and more for Him. When we submit ourselves totally to God, He will use us as His vessels for the advancement of His kingdom. God gave us free will. He will not force us to submit to His will, but, when we do submit, so much can be done.

The second command in this passage is to love our neighbor as ourselves. If we treat our neighbor as we treat ourselves, much power can flow through both us and our neighbor. Love for one another can create a synergy of power beyond the sum of the individual loves. Have you ever seen power created in love? I know I have, and it is awesome when it is seen in action.

So much can be done where there is love in the world. To the contrary, there is so much destruction where there is hate.

Our Lord knows all that stands behind the two commands contained in the above passage. We who believe in Him and follow His commands see all the goodness which flow from them, including the power contained within.

Lord Jesus, thank you for teaching us about love through your words and your actions. We pray that we may always share the love You have for us with all those we meet, so that they may come to know You as we know You. AMEN!!
