As I sat reading from God’s Word there was some thoughts, I believe, He gave me. On, of course how we have a tendency to change something at the beginning of the year.

Examples: #1. To lose weight 2. Read God’s Word more 3.Pay off debts 4. A world of things so I will not try to name them all.

Many of those things we resolve to do in the New Year are “usually” good things so I won’t try to put any of them down, but the thought comes to me-

Why wait till the begging of the year? Why not as soon as we see the need of the particular situation?

Recently I visited a church for a Christmas Eve Candle Light Service. Now to begin with I thought and you might be doing the same, that this was a Great thing to do.

After the singing and Scripture reading, and before the candles were lit, they had “what was called communion.” But there was a problem- it wasn’t done Biblically.

See the pastor said, It doesn’t matter what denomination you are, your welcome to participate. That God’s Word did not disagree with so I sure couldn’t. All Christians are welcome at His table.

But it was the next thing that was done that was NOT Biblical- see everyone was welcome. Yeah even the lost, those that are possibly saved but living a sinful life- everyone!

I would not participate because of the sinful nature it was offered. So why would that bother me?

Doesn’t it sound so trivial since it would be just fine for the rest of us?

Lets see how serious it is to God:

Matt. 26:26-29, While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Something Jesus did for those who believed in Him and He stated He would share with them again in Heaven.

Luke 13:24-27,  “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’  “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’  “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’

I have heard people say because they were baptized, or joined this church or that church they were going to heaven. So many people are so Wrong and partly because of leaders in churches that are so WRONG!

Lets get, as I’ve heard the expression, to the nitty-gritty :

< 1 Cor. 11:23-31, For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.

Did you notice the last verse- “if we were more discerning?”

Merriam Webster states:

Dis·cern·ing

Adjective \di-ˈsər-niŋ\

: able to see and understand people, things, or situations clearly and intelligently

So how do we understand? By studying God’s Word!!!

Then what? DO what we learn!!!

There is NO excuse for our unwillingness to get into His Word. If you can’t read, it is on tape, CD etc. You are blind, or know someone that is blind- it is Braille. Just too lazy- there is punishment.

Now before you say, Well what does this have to do with resolutions?

It is my resolution to be willing to share with those that don’t seem to know what God’s Word says BUT yet lead others to follow a sinful way- right there in church. So whether a preacher, teacher or other leader that teaches sinfulness, ignorant or on purpose- I will place my neck on the chopping block for my Lord with His Truth!
