Today is the throw away generation. I remember the soda bottles that were returned to get a penny back to go towards the purchase of another drink, milk delivered in glass bottles.

I remember all bottles made of glass, and were used to place screws, nails etc in to keep separated. I remember feed sacks made of cloth, milk bottles returned to be refilled.

These cloth sacks were used but the lady of the house to make dresses for the girls and themselves and shirts for the boys and men of the family.

I remember everything was built to last for as long as you needed them.

We built and bought houses to last the entirety of our lives, oh maybe a small house till the family grew but today is different,

Today people purchase a house with the intent to sell it in a few years. There isn’t a thought of keeping it for the rest of their lives.

On this same line we have done the same with marriage- people don’t marry today with the intent to stay with this other person for life,

No today it is till I get interested in someone prettier, sexier, someone with more money or shows me more respect,

It is till I decide I want something or someone else in my life, then I’m out of here, or I’ll kick you out- mentality!

I recently heard a man pledge to live with his new bride for 3 years (3 YEARS!!!) Yes and she said 3 years then we will discuss it!

Today people don’t care about bottles, houses or marriage- there is NO commitment which is what truly makes a marriage.

In God’s Word marriage is used as an example of relation ship with Jesus:

Jeremiah 31:31-32

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel And with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband tothem,” declares the Lord.

Paul writing he also refers to us as the Bride of Christ:

2 Corinthians 11:2

I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

Now the problem is, we have a tendency to throw away everything, even our relationship with God! Oh we don’t admit it but our actions mean a lot more than what we say.

We “call” ourselves Christians but have sat by and allowed the minority take prayer out of school, take Christ related things, manger scenes etc., down from all government buildings.

There is more outrage (from those naming themselves as God’s children) about gun control then the important issues. Why would a Christian be concerned about a gun?

If, notice I said “if” we are killed we get to Heaven sooner than later so again I ask, why would a Christian need a gun. Will we shot the people that need Salvation?

We will quit a church because of some frivolous reason as we divorce for a frivolous reason- seems, IF you honestly look at it, we can delete God from our daily life as easily as throwing those plastic bottles in the garbage!

We cannot have Christ without the church. Jesus promised to build it (Matt. 16:18) because it was part of God’s eternal plan (Eph. 3:10-11). Therefore, it is important that we “seek” and put “importance” in our lives the sharing (church) we others (Matt. 6:33).

We cannot honor the Lord if we despise His bride. As an unbelieving Jew, Paul [then Saul] spent time “breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord” (Acts 9:1). Years later Paul said he had “persecuted the church of God” (1 Cor. 15:9).

But when Jesus spoke from heaven while Paul [Saul] was still engaged in those activities, He said, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9:4).

Whatever is done to the church is done to Jesus, for she is His bride.
