A Tribute to Rev. Calvin

When he started this website, Calvin only wanted to be known by his first name. He and I both share the belief that “He must increase, but I must decrease.”( John 3:30.) and therefore keep our last names anonymous. When he started, he signed his articles CalvinT, but in his last posts, he signed them as “Rev. Calvin.” Due to his health, Calvin has retired and turned his site over to me to do with it as I see fit.

Here are a few words I would like to share about Calvin.

A Tribute to Rev. Calvin

Before I met Calvin, I realized that everything I knew about the Bible I had learned from someone else: Church teachers, Bible teachers, and others. I studied on my own, but I was always influenced by the denominational teachings of those I “learned” from. So, I challenged myself to learn exclusively from the Bible and not from denominational teachings, commentaries or other teachers.

Unfair Gospel

1Cor. 15:1-4, Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

In many churches the historical reality of Jesus’ resurrection is some children’s story thrown in to the Sunday School mix at Easter time. Paul points out again to a carnal, struggling church that the resurrection is the heart of the gospel.

True Islam

We keep hearing that Islam is a peaceful religion, that these Isis or Isil along with Osama bin Laden (Al Qaeda), Ayman Al Zawahiri and many many others are extremists and and are not of the true Islamic religion. Is this true or are these the “actual” followers of the Islamic religion?

Lets look at “religions” and see where things come from- we will start with Christianity:

The (person) that began what is known today as Christianity was Jesus. Christ is Greek and stands for Messiah, in Hebrew. So, to be the Christ, or Messiah, is to be “the anointed one of God.”

Where do we see this in the Old Testament?

Three Religions One God?

Recently I was watching, for a few minutes, a program on Educational Television where I learned there are a lot of “educated” idiots out in this world.

They were trying to explain that Islam, Judaism and Christianity believed in the same god. It dawned on me that these people had no concept of the Bible, or for that matter the Koran.

A few years back I had a man, who was supposed to be a Christian, try to tell me that Muslims and Christians believed in the same god but the Muslims just didn’t believe in Jesus. I asked him if he knew the Bible.

A Christian

This is a more complex name than most think. Many feel all they have to do is join a church to be a Christian while other feel if they go down, say “the” prayer they’re a Christian.

Many feel if they don’t “do” bad things they are a Christian, while other feel if they live a better life that so and so that names themselves as a Christian, they are good to go.

Well to bust all of those bubbles- it just ain’t so!!

The time is getting close to Jesus’ return and I am being compelled to change the way I’ve been writing. Oh it is good to know all the little things in the Bible-

God’s Word Revealed

Have you noticed when you read God’s Word many times you seem to find something you didn’t see before? I have that happen a lot that is why I never stop learning from the Bible.

As far as reading through, I’ve read the Old Testament 5 times and the New Testament 7 times. That is in addition to many many other readings.

Have done various studies on a particular subjects but haven’t even scratched the surface of this mighty Book written by God- yes He used men to pen the words on paper but it was written by Him and about Him to a people that need it!
