Celebrating Life, A Time of Healing and Thanksgiving part 2

The Luton Gospel Community Choir (LGCC) continues to serve the community here in Bedfordshire (UK) and its surrounding communities, for the past 9 years. They are on the radio; on our television screens; in our local schools and churches; in our local mall…They are actively spreading the good news of the gospel(1).

On Saturday, 29 October 2011, the Choir held their ninth anniversary concert at the Dunstable Conference Centre. It has been receiving very good reports of its impact on the community. It takes hard work and dedication to remain committed to such a cause. Although pictures are posted of smiling faces and videos are shared with voices in harmony, success like this does not come without sweat and tears. Ensuring the work continues to move forward comes with joys and sorrows. It is for this reason I take the time to give God thanks for the work He has done through this team and say a big THANK YOU and WELL DONE!

Why I’m Not a Calvinist

There are an abundance of scriptures and reasons that lead me to reject Calvinism. One of my main reasons is because it clearly ignores Jesus nature towards the lost and the fact that he told us when we see him we have seen the Fathers nature too.

Many others have been written very lengthy and excellent articles on why they cannot accept Calvinism and these can be found online elsewhere. I just wanted to list a few of the more unique ones that may not be considered as often.

1) For me this one is very simple and very powerful. Jesus said repent or perish. Repent means “change mind”. Right there Jesus is clearly implying they can change their mind and not perish. If they cannot change their mind, this would be a form of deception, a lie by Jesus. The offer to repent and avoid disaster was regularly made by God in the Bible. The ruthless Assyrians, who ISIS has been compared to come to mind in Nineveh. Jonah hated the Assyrians because of what they had done to the Jews. He did not want to preach there because he knew that if they did change their mind, God would not destroy them as was the case in the end. Without a verse that specifically states man cannot change his mind and believe, Calvinists claim it is because the Bible says no one is seeking God. They forget:

We Are Not Sinners Because We Sin, We Sin Because We are Sinners

Introduction

This Bible study as most I have written is designed to rid the believer of any doubt regarding God’s love for them and their complete and total forgiveness in Christ. It is only satan who wants you to doubt your total forgiveness and righteousness in Christ which leads you to doubt God’s love. Satan knows that doubting these truths is specifically what keeps a believer trapped in reoccurring sin and ineffective for God. These studies are designed to renew the mind.

This study goes in depth with abundant scripture to prove that we were made sinners and born into a fallen world because of Adams disobedience. We can only be made righteous, right with God, by faith in Jesus obedience.  Our outward acts of sin while wrong, are only symptoms of our inherited sin nature. This is why just doing good works now will not save anyone. God gave man the law to protect us from each others fallen nature and reveal our need for a savior. Jesus came to deal with that inherited nature and tells us we must be born again to overcome it and be a co-heir with Christ. Get your Bible out and study with me. If you have any questions, comments or objections, I really hope you will post them below the study or contact me through private messenger.

10 Commandments Are Not Gods Highest Standard

You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matt 5:48 ESV

I used to believe and many teach that Matthew 5:48 talks about perfect law keeping. I was wrong. It is talking about a much higher standard of perfection that simply keeping the written law can never attain.

We should be very thankful that God gave us the written law we see in the Ten Commandments as opposed to insisting we keep the perfect spirit of the those Commandments or come under judgment. God’s perfect standard is actually watered down in the Ten Commandments which will appear easy to keep once a person realizes Gods perfect standard cited below. The commandments are only a shadow the reality.

How to Stop Sin

This study reveals the truth that going back to the law is not the way to stop sin. The Bible teaches that a firm belief in your complete and totally forgiveness and God’s love for you, is the only way to produce the fruits of the spirit necessary to stop outwards acts of sin in our life.

If as a Christian you are caught in sin, going back to the Law is not the answer to your problem.

You may not realize that the Bible teaches we were made sinners, born with an inherited fallen nature, due solely to Adams disobedience. Our outward acts of sin are the symptoms of our inherited nature.

How to be Transformed Into His Image

As Christians we desire to be more like Jesus, but as we look in the mirror we behold our failures in the flesh. We struggle and battle unsuccessfully, attempting to produce the attributes we see in Jesus. We try to love our neighbor, be patient, stop sin, be peaceful like Jesus and we often fail. Unfortunately, if our way does work for a season, it often leads us into pride and the judgement of others who we now view as less Christ like. These struggles require no faith, just flesh.

God’s ways are not our ways; His way to be transformed is NOT FOUND in the works of the flesh, IT IS ONLY FOUND in Jesus Himself. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” 2 Cor 3:18 NASB
